ExxonMobil brings next-generation solutions of Proxxima™ resin systems to China Composites Expo 2026
ExxonMobil participated in the China Composites Expo with its Proxxima™ polyolefin thermoset resin systems, bringing fresh perspectives and technological inspiration to China's composites industry.
Leveraging its exceptional toughness, hydrophobicity and lightweight properties, Proxxima resin systems are emerging as a compelling solution for the composites industry, particularly in the mobility and infrastructure segments.
At the Expo, ExxonMobil demonstrated an array of capabilities Proxxima resin systems have to offer across industries:
- The electric vehicle battery housing demonstrator, developed by the Proxxima team in collaboration with Fraunhofer ICT, is an innovative structural solution for high-voltage battery systems in mobility applications.
- Manufactured using High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM), it consolidates multiple components into a single, high-performance structure and enables structural weight reduction, functional enhancement and streamlined automotive mass production.
- This creative design has been shortlisted for the China Composite Expo Innovation Award, reflecting its strong potential to reshape next-generation mobility.
- The Proxxima team also collaborated with local customers in China to present its rebar solutions, demonstrating its capability to address the specific needs and requirements of the regional market.
- Proxxima resin systems have low viscosity and quick cure, enabling the redesign of complex parts for more efficient and scalable manufacturing. Its unique polymer properties allow it to be lighter, stronger and more durable than steel and other traditionally used thermosets.
- ExxonMobil also introduced Proxxima system-based glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) MST-BAR™. It can help customers overcome the long-standing challenges of traditional steel.
- It powered the replacement of a patch-prone asphalt pavement with a durable long term concrete pavement solution in just two days. Compared to steel, the lightweight properties of GFRP rebar manufactured with Proxxima resin systems allow for ease of use and speed of installation without the need for heavy lifting machinery, while its durability enables lasting strength and lower lifetime costs.
During the exhibition, the Chinese brand of Proxxima was unveiled to the composites industry for the first time. Its Chinese name博思迈™ embodies professionalism, innovative spirit and the confidence to push beyond boundaries. Together with its tagline迈新程,共所成, it not only underscores the brand's delivery of advanced material performance but also reflects its ongoing focus on joining forces with Chinese customers and value chain partners in driving new industry advancements.
To further support customer needs, ExxonMobil’s Huizhou Chemical Complex Proxxima™ Systems Blend Plant is under construction and expected to begin commercial production in 2027. ExxonMobil is also establishing a Proxxima resin systems application lab in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park to support R&D in composites, coatings and formulation system development.
