This project marks another expansion of Proxxima systems into new, high-performance anti-corrosion industrial applications. ExxonMobil’s ongoing use of Proxxima systems in its own assets demonstrates its confidence in enhanced performance and value creation.

“By using the Proxxima-based coating in this tank application, we’ve been able to reduce the required number of coats and get the same amount of protection,” said Jimmy Schexnayder, Non-Metallics Specialist. “This is huge, because it means we spend less on labor, which lowers overall project costs. With fewer coats required, our teams are able to have a much more predictable project, allowing us to get more work done.”

In this Baton Rouge project, Proxxima system-based resin’s versatility met an additional challenge: the storage tank was located near a public roadway. To mitigate overspray concerns, the application method used was brush and roll, after SSPC SP-6 surface preparation (commercial blast).

The roller-applied Proxxima system-based resin solution:

• Decreased the traditional roller-applied service from three to two coats
• Delivered a >40% reduction in coating application labor hours and associated costs
• Saved 20% on total project costs (including surface preparation)
• Achieved dry-to-touch in 2-hours and ready for re-coat within 3-hours
• Validated for application performance per ISO 12944-6 testing
• Reduced emissions by ~75% in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) vs traditional systems

Proxxima system-based resin’s versatility and performance characteristics also show promise in other coating applications such as corrosion under insulation (CUI). ExxonMobil plans to continue expanding use of Proxxima system-based resin coatings across other applications, including protection for pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, railcars, subsea flowlines, and marine vessels.
